Retriever Puppy Place Training

Learning place training is one of the best things you can teach your puppy.

What age can you start place training your puppy?

-You can begin place training your golden Retriever at any age.

What supplies do I need to start place training my Retriever puppy?

The supplies you will need consist of only a raised bed. A raised bed is necessary to eliminate any gray area for yourself and your golden pup. It provides a very clear, on or off , of place.

  • It is important to keep eyes on your golden pup while you are place training, do not let them have accidents while on place.
  • Keep in mind the general 3 second rule.
  • As your golden retriever pup gets older, and has mastered the skill of place, anything can become place and the raised dog bed is no longer necessary.

Put your golden retriever pup on place ( the raised dog bed). Tell them place when you set them down. When you first begin this training , your golden pup may try to immediately get off. Immediately pick them up and place them back on place, while saying Place. Ignore them if they whine When they settle in, meaning they relax and lay down , this is when you give them soft praise Do not call your pup off of place. When you are done working on place training, pick up your pup off of place, do not let them walk off of place. This will help instill in them, not to get off of place. The longer you can go without calling them off of place, the better. I do not start calling my own pups off of place, till I can no longer pick them up to take them off of place.
